Temagami is both a city and region. With a focus on the Ojibwa community, and renowned for its 4000 km of canoe routes, Temagami was in the 1930s, the residential area of Grey Owl (Archibald Belaney), a Metis writer known for his works focusing on environmentalism and nature conservation.

Located 60 km from Temiskaming Shores, Temagami remains focused on tourism, being an outdoor region where many families come to stay during the summer.

Temagami Fire Tower
Temagami Fire Tower
The Temagami Fire Tower, which overlooks the city from the top of Caribou Mountain, is a good activity for the whole family. The 30-meter tower was used in the 1970s to detect forest fires in the region. The original tower measured 14 meters, so it is now twice its original height, which gives an even more astonishing view on the town and surrounding areas.

For the less courageous ones, the view of this resplendent landscape from the base of the tower is still worth the hike! It is also possible to arrange a tour by plane with an outfitter if you feel like viewing the area from up above.

White Bear Trail
Temagami, with its scattered red pine forests and white offers you natural beauty where to wander. The trail system of the White Bear Forest offers many hikes of various levels to nature lovers. The access points can be accessed either by boat or by car, but the easiest to access is located in the town of Temagami.

If they feel like it, hikers can rent a canoe or boat to continue exploring Snake Island Lake or Cassels Lake. To learn more about the trails, the spots that are worth visiting and the history of the surrounding forests, visit the Information center in Temagami.
