As the legend does, Fred Larose, a Cobalt blacksmith and part-time prospector, threw a hammer at a pesky fox and chipped off what was apparently a big piece of ‘float’, a boulder full of easily seen silver points, gleaming in the host rock. From this moment forward, the silver rush was on!
